It was recently brought to my attention by pastor Aaron Edwards that this Thursday, May 3rd, is National Day of Prayer. First Baptist Church of Concord is opening its doors on this day from 12 – 1pm for anyone who would like to gather in “unity” and pray for our nation. As mentioned before, I am someone who has seen prayer work not only in my life, but in the lives of others.

Our country is much in need of prayer, even though it no longer seems to be popular. Our current Vice President was recently made fun of on television for “believing he could talk to Jesus”. A former politician recently stated that “prayer isn’t enough” in regards to random acts of school violence. Has our nation become so bold as to think Christ can’t deliver us from evil? (Read Psalm 23:4)

When I was in school, I remember praying as a class before lunch, praying as a team before sporting events, and even prayer over the intercom before Friday night football games. Ironically, I don’t ever remember being afraid to go to school or worrying if there would be enough security there to keep me safe.

I believe America and its children are in need of prayer. You are entitled to disagree. However, if you agree, please set aside time on Thursday (or any day) and pray for unity in our country and guidance for its leaders. When is the last time you got down on your knees and earnestly prayed and spoke to God? He will listen. (Read 1 Peter 3:12)
