It doesn’t happen often, but someone amazed me today. She discovered from a friend that a gentleman was in need of a life-saving kidney transplant. Sadly, none of his close friends or family were compatible to donate the organ. Upon learning this, she said something just “nudged her” to get tested. She was almost a perfect match, and of her own will, she is scheduled for surgery next week to donate one of her kidneys to a man she hardly knows. If you are a person of faith, I encourage you to pray for both donor and recipient. I know I will.
In the passage from Luke, Jesus was amazed at the faith of a Roman centurion. This high ranking military official was a Gentile, and most likely had not been brought up knowing about God’s love. However, he had obviously heard of Jesus’ healing power and knew that Jesus didn’t even have to be present to cure his ailing servant.
I am no biblical scholar, nor do I claim to be, but I know of only one other instance in the Bible where Jesus was amazed. (Read Mark 6:6) I hope that when I feel God’s “nudge” he is amazed by my faith, and not my lack thereof.
